The Dynodex DA is a desk-accessory version of the Dynodex application. It comes free with your Dynodex package.
You install the Dynodex DA using the Font/DA Mover. Once it's installed (it will show up under the Apple Menu), you can open it any time to quickly look up and dial a record.
You can open any Dynodex file from the DA, because both the application and the DA read the same files. You can add a new record, and delete or edit an existing record right in the DA. You can also dial any number.
The DA has many of the same commands and features as the application. In fact, you can set "Preferences" in your DA that are different from your application, because you may use it differently. These include:
• Set Startup: So the DA automatically opens your most frequently used address list whenever the DA is launched.
• Dialing Preferences: You can specify the dial tone and port, the local area code, and any prefix or suffix required to dial.
• Location: You can "localize" the DA to US, UK, or International address and date formatting (see "Preferences" for more info).
• Window Persistence: If you turn this on, the DA entry screen will always open in the same position on your screen.
If you try to open a Dynodex file in the DA and it's already open in the application, Dynodex will ask you if you want the DA to open it as a "read-only" file. If you say "OK", you'll only be able to look up a record in the DA.
In the Dynodex DA, the First Line field is identified by a bullet to the left of the "Business" or "Name" field label.
SUGGESTION: A great way to copy and paste records between two different Dynodex files: Open one file in the application, and the other in the DA. Choose "Copy Record" from the application, go to the DA, and choose "Paste Record" to paste into the DA. (Or vice versa.)
NOTE: The DA is intended for speedy information look-up and updating; if you need to do more complex tasks (like printing, sorting, merging, marking, importing, etc.), you must use the Dynodex application.
